Make a simple silhouette display with supplies you may already own. Start with what you already have, choose one focal point, and give yourself permission to keep it simple.
Measure the glass
Measure the visible pane and sketch a few large shapes on scrap paper. A moon, cat and bare branch read more clearly than many tiny cutouts.
Cut and attach gently
An adult should handle craft knives. Use removable adhesive appropriate for your glass and test a small area first. Keep decorations away from heaters and candles.
Let room light do the work
Place the shapes inside the window. Turn on a lamp set back from the glass and check the view from the sidewalk; adjust until the silhouette is clear.
Before the first trick-or-treater
Check the display after dark. Secure loose pieces, keep the door and walkway clear, and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for lights and props. Plan to bring delicate items inside if the weather changes.
Save the idea for later.

The easiest October window is made of paper.
